NEW YORK -- Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, has been awarded a $100 million contract to manage the renovation and expansion of Harrah's Cherokee Hotel Casino in Cherokee, N.C. Construction is underway with completion of the multi-phased project scheduled for January 2013.
The Harrah's Cherokee Hotel Casino Renovation and Expansion Project will add 110,000 sq. ft. gaming floor area to the casino while renovating the existing 130,000 sq. ft. gaming floor. The scope of work will also provide new modern bars, restaurants and entertainment stages to the casino and hotel. Additional features of the renovated resort will be a 70 foot interior waterfall and a rotunda area that will change lighting and sounds with the changing seasons.

Kansas Tops Yearly and Vermont & New York Top Monthly Gainers; California and Nevada Experience Most Job Losses During Past Year While Illinois Experiences Largest Monthly Percent Decline
Construction job gains were more widespread across the country and job losses were generally less severe in July than in June, the Associated General Contractors of America reported in an analysis of state employment data released today by the Labor Department. Twenty–six states added construction jobs in July, compared to 19 in June, while six states added construction jobs over the past year and most others are losing far fewer jobs than previously, association officials noted.

WASHINGTON -- The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has been recognized as an approved accreditor of crane operator certification programs by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the U.S. Department of Labor.
"ANSI is pleased to have earned OSHA's recognition as an accreditor of crane operator certification programs, which attests to the highest quality of the Institute's personnel certification accreditation program," said Lane Hallenbeck, ANSI vice president of accreditation services. Survey of Safety Professionals Finds Shockingly High Incidence of Noncompliance
ROSWELL, GA. -- Nearly all of the safety professionals in a survey released today said that workers in their organizations had at some point failed to wear the necessary safety equipment while on the job.
An exceedingly high 98 percent of respondents who attended the recent American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) show in Baltimore answered "yes" when asked if they had observed workers not wearing safety equipment when they should have been, according to the survey, which was conducted by Kimberly-Clark Professional.

 DENVER, Colo. -- 1800 Larimer, the Denver Central Business District's first high-rise office in more than 25 years, has been awarded LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Westfield Company, Inc. announced today. The certification makes 1800 Larimer one of the first high-rise office buildings in the United States and the largest west of the Mississippi River to receive LEED Platinum status – the highest awarded. In addition, the property is the first building in Colorado to be awarded LEED Platinum certification based on the LEED Core/Shell version 2.0, which has more stringent requirements than earlier versions.

"Dirty Jobs" executive producer and host Mike Rowe to appear in campaign
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Approximately one third of all skilled tradesmen in the construction industry are over the age of 50. With their retirement on the horizon, training programs are not producing enough young workers to replace those exiting the industry. To combat this trend, Alabama's construction industry will launch an education and recruitment campaign Monday, Aug. 23 to bring new people to the commercial and industrial construction industry.
