Webcor Also First to “Road Test” Global Standard for World Business Council for Sustainable Development
SAN FRANCISCO -- Webcor Builders today announced that it is the first company to submit its complete supply chain greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to the World Resources Institute. It also reported its emissions to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) as one of 60 major corporations selected to “road test” the new GHG standard.
“Construction materials are now part of the global economy, influenced by multinational corporations that will require consistent global GHG standards”
The presentation was made recently at the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product/Supply Chain Initiative Scope 3 Road Testing Workshop in Washington, DC.

2.7 Percent Increase in Spending Represents Largest Monthly Increase in 10 Years Construction spending rebounded strongly in April, with an increase of 2.7 percent or $23 billion from March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $869 billion according to the latest analysis of federal spending figures released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. The association noted that the gains were primarily driven by private residential construction (up 4.4 percent) and public construction (up 2.4 percent), but that private nonresidential also increased significantly (up 1.7 percent).

DALLAS -- Charter Builders and Irving Independent School District recently celebrated the official groundbreaking for the largest "net zero" public school in the United States. The first of its kind in Texas, the school district's Lady Bird Johnson Middle School is designed to produce as much energy as it uses, thereby reducing operating costs for the district and shrinking the school's carbon footprint.

Tacoma, WA -- The Tacoma Goodwill Industries Milgard Work Opportunity Center, completed by Rushforth Construction in 2009, has won a 2010 Excellence in Construction award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Western Washington. The Milgard Work Opportunity Center took top prize in the Commercial Construction category. Two other Rushforth projects—Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community Wellness Center and The Grand Hotel and parking garage—received Honorable Mentions in Commercial Construction. At a recent celebration ABC of Western Washington presented a total of eleven awards for 2010, which each year recognize quality and innovation in construction.
