Hardin Construction Company's sustainability portfolio includes nearly 20 LEED-certified projects, but none of them has quite lit up the green-o-meter like the Atlanta Botanical Garden's Green Expansion The Garden's new visitor center and parking deck received Gold LEED certification. Hardin served as general contractor on project.

Alex S. Palmer Completes Construction of Denver FBI Headquarters
DENVER, June 22 -- Alex S. Palmer & Company announced that Denver's new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) building project is completed. The Denver-based FBI staff, whose jurisdiction is all of Colorado and Wyoming, is now fully operating in the space.

Alex S. Palmer & Company is the developer/owner of the 220,000 gross square-foot office building and 120,000-square-foot adjoining parking garage. The structure's design and appointments provide a heavy emphasis on security planning and meet all of the required functional and aesthetic goals of the FBI. Located on a 10-acre campus, which formerly served as home to Denver Stapleton Airport, the building incorporates several "green" construction and maintenance elements and is LEED Certified. The glass building also features two large private courtyards and is built to provide stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.

Dow Kokam Breaks Ground on Advanced Battery Manufacturing Plant for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
MIDLAND, Mich. -- Dow Kokam's Chief Executive Officer Ravi Shanker was joined by Vice President Joe Biden, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, The Dow Chemical Company Chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris and other dignitaries at a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate construction of Dow Kokam's new advanced, large-format battery production facility. The groundbreaking marks the first phase of construction for the high-tech, world-scale manufacturing facility, which will produce affordable lithium-ion batteries to supply the growing electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market.

EPA Announces Data Centers Can Now Earn Energy Star Label
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that stand-alone data centers and buildings that house large data centers can now earn the Energy Star label. To earn the label, data centers must be in the top 25 percent of their peers in energy efficiency according to EPA’s energy performance scale. By improving efficiency, centers can save energy and money and help fight climate change.

Haskell Selected to Complete Design/Build for Scripps Proton Therapy Center in San Diego

(June 22, 2010) – The Haskell Company announces it has been selected by Advanced Particle Therapy LLC and Scripps Health to provide design/build services for the Scripps Proton Therapy Center to be located in San Diego, Calif. The cutting-edge outpatient cancer treatment facility will feature 102,000 square feet of administrative and treatment area and will include one proton particle beam accelerator Cyclotron, two fixed-beam rooms, and three rotational beam gantries. This equipment will be provided by Varian Medical Systems, the recognized world leader in radiation oncology devices. Proton treatment is the favored method of treating certain types of tumors, such as prostate, brain and pediatric cancers, without severely damaging the surrounding healthy tissues.

OSHA's Severe Violator Enforcement Directive Effective June 18

Turner Building Cost Index Shows a 13.16% Decline from Peak in 2008
Index at its Lowest Level since Third Quarter of 2006; Upward Pricing Pressure on Materials Slows Rate of Decline

NEW YORK -- Turner Construction Company announced that the Second Quarter 2010 Turner Building Cost Index continues to show declining costs in the non-residential building construction market in the United States. The Turner Building Cost Index is forecasting a decrease in construction costs of 0.13% from the First Quarter 2010 and a decrease of 4.66% from the Second Quarter 2009. Since its peak at the end of 2008, construction costs have fallen by 13.16%. The Turner Building Cost Index value for Second Quarter of 2010 is 798, the index's lowest level since the Third Quarter of 2006.
